with a few Unexpected Downtown Chattanooga portrait spots.
For her senior session KP wanted an urban vibe so we chose downotown Chattanooga. We wanted to highlight and photograph what was the most important and personal to KP. We met in a church parking lot not far from the westside and walking distance to Cooper’s alley which ended up being our first photo spot. Music and Art were weaved through every shot. KP's instrument and a touch of the trending poet aesthetic were the perfect combination for our downtown locations. KP has been featured in several plays, so naturally we wanted to show off her playbills during her shoot.
The colors in Cooper’s alley played well with her amazing blue maxi length dress. We stopped at an unexpected entrance on the way with the cutest black and white tile and were able to capture some moody sitting shots there. For fun, she jumped into the middle of the street between traffic. ha!
After Cooper’s Alley, we walked up the hill and shot in the grass on the backside of the Courthouse. We noticed some gorgeous golden trees and the grass was nice to get shots with her playbills. We hitched a ride from KP's dad (which was awesome) over to the westside village where we landed on a rooftop.
The rooftop is above a parking garage which sits across the street from Old Gilman Grill and above Alimentari Cucina e bar. For these pictures, KP brought a soft neutral oversized sweater with jeans. She was clear that she loves a lot of accessories (which made me happy) and chose gold bracelets, and my personal fave was the classy but edgy black nails. This was the perfect fall/winter color accessory leading into the Holidays. I loved how her black painted nails and jewelry added to and elevated her neutral sweater and denim as well as her dress. This session was in November which made it especially festive downtown. There is just something about being downtown Chattanooga and probably most cities in this season that brings us an extra feeling of excitement of what's to come. Last but not least, KP's bible was something she wanted to include and which we captured at the courthouse lawn leaning against a tree as well as the garage rooftop which you see here. The sun had already dropped behind the buildings and we were able to shoot for a few minutes in the blue light which was really fun.
My goal in senior sessions is to highlight the real person, not to recreate sessions that look like everyone else’s. While I love incorporating current trends, staying true to who she is allows each gallery to have its own beautiful, natural flow.
